Alzheimer’s Foundation Releases State Guidelines for Care

From Melville, NY, Ellen Scharaga is OncoMed Pharmaceutical Services’ Senior VP of Operations. In addition to managing OncoMed’s personnel, accreditation status, and dispensing operations, Ellen Scharaga personally supports several charities, including the American Cancer Society and the Alzheimer’s Foundation.

In July 2014, the Alzheimer’s Foundation, together with the National Alliance for Caregiving, released a whitepaper containing recommendations intended to help state governments improve care for Alzheimer’s patients. Ensuring quality Alzheimer’s care should be a priority, given that the disease is projected to affect up to 14 million people by 2050.

Among the guidelines, which are applicable both to new and existing Alzheimer’s programs, was the recommendation for each state government to create a taskforce comprised of individuals with the disease, their families or caregivers, as well as government and community groups. The members of the taskforce should be included in the design and evaluation of state plans to help diagnose and care for those with the disease.
