After graduating from St. John’s University in New York with a B.S. in Pharmacology, Ellen Scharaga joined Baxter Travenol Laboratories Inc., now Baxter International Inc., as the Director of Pharmacy. Since then, Ellen Scharaga has expanded her knowledge and skill set to encompass all aspects of the pharmaceutical industry.
Primarily working in leadership positions for medical care companies, Ellen Scharaga has developed a keen understanding of all pharmacy operations, including supply, quality assurance, inventory management, and compliance with governmental regulations. Ellen Scharaga also introduced and implemented a number of programs to assist patients with at-home care. During her time with Baxter International Inc., Ellen Scharaga managed daily proceedings of a home-care pharmacy and aided in the direction of training at-home care givers with administering intravenous infusion therapies.
While operating as General Manager, as she did for Health Infusion and National Medical Care, Ellen Scharaga concentrated on sales and operations of the businesses. She assisted in development of branch sales, budgeting, financial planning, and operational efficacy. At National Medical Care, Ellen Scharaga streamlined product processing by updating computer equipment, leading to a 25 percent increase of revenue. Assembling annual sales forecasts and other financial analyses, Ellen Scharaga developed a keen understanding of how to create and implement financial strategic plans to aid in company success and development.
A registered pharmacist with the State of New York, Ellen Scharaga maintains her technical knowledge and professional networks as a member of the Academy of Managed Care Pharmacy, the Hematology/Oncology Pharmacy Association, and the Pharmacists Society of the State of New York. Ellen Scharaga regularly volunteers with the American Cancer Society and donates to The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society and Alzheimer’s Foundation of America.
